Preaching The Bible More Effectively With A Bible Timeline

In our weekly Bible class years ago, a woman who had been a Christian and worked in the Church for over 15 years, said,"Yes, but Abraham had the Law and so he understood about......" (they were not referring to the pre-Moses law) I wonder just how many Christians would actually notice the error in this assertion. Moses came about some 500 years after Abraham and so it is not possible. I have since then compiled a Bible chronological chart and shown graphically the time period of individuals and occasions.

Some years ago, I was speaking on the burial, death, resurrection and life of Jesus, and a retired minister and strong preacher of Scripture, who had been a pastor for 40 years, came up and reproved me vigorously over some interesting points I made and he mentioned 1Ti 1:4'Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.' I humbly asked him if I was saying anything of a heretical nature in any way, to which he replied"No". I continued on to explain that in the case of that particular verse, it was not referring to examining Scripture but to the false teaching and philosophy of the Gnostics, but he would not have it. So, how can a 40 year minister & worker in the Gospel, not know and understand about something that possibly half the books of the New Testament relate to?
How could he understand and preach the Bible fully without being familiar with something that was so influential in the New Testament church? And then how can the congregation hope to comprehend these things and be in a position to understand their Bible well, if they're not told?
Let's us as instructors and preachers stitch together the fragments of the Bible and His plan into a complete picture that our people are able to draw on for the rest of their lives, helping them to comprehend God, His Eternal Plan, the role of the Church and how to better interpret the Bible to model our lives by.
It's not hard to do, and it's not boring if we are prepared to put in a bit of study and prayer and fervor, and just perhaps you can employ a Bible Timeline too.
